Languages we can offer

For many people in Hyderabad, Telugu is the language of home and Hindi or English is the language of the street, the office and the phone. We offer consultations in Telugu with Dr. Pooja Rani and Dr. Samarth S Shetty, both of whom list Telugu on their profiles, and in Hindi or English with those two and with other psychiatrists on the team, such as Dr. Barkha Chikara, who is shown below. Many people prefer to describe low mood or fear in Telugu and use English for medicines and test results. You can switch between them in the same call, and our team will ask on your first call which mix feels natural.

Living and working in Hyderabad

  • A city of many languages. Hyderabad is home to people who grew up speaking Telugu, Hindi and other languages, and plenty of households move between several in a day. Language matters most when describing feelings, so if a first language other than English comes more easily for you, say so on your free call and we will match you accordingly.
  • Long workdays and long journeys. The city's technology, pharmaceutical and services workplaces often mean long hours, and travel across the city can take much of an evening. A video consultation removes the journey, and follow-ups can be short and fit around meetings. Many people find that being able to attend from a quiet room at home makes it easier to keep appointments.
  • Family involvement. Telugu-speaking families are often closely involved in a person's health decisions. With your agreement, a parent or partner can join part of a consultation so that the explanation is shared in the language the family uses. You decide how much anyone else hears, and consultations remain confidential.

Online psychiatry for a city of IT parks and old neighbourhoods

Hyderabad combines large technology workplaces with long-settled neighbourhoods, and the needs differ. Professionals in shift-based or client-facing jobs often struggle with sleep and anxiety, while families in older parts of the city may wait before seeking help because of stigma. A video consultation from home or a quiet room at work lets both groups keep it private. If your first language is Telugu, you can have the consultation in Telugu; if you prefer Hindi or English, you can use those. Say which suits you when you book.

Keep a short note of your sleep, appetite and mood for a week before the call. It does not need to be neat. Your psychiatrist can use it to see patterns that are hard to recall on the spot, and to judge whether treatment is working at the first review. Bring the name of any regular medicine, including supplements, since some interact with psychiatric treatment.

Concerns people in Hyderabad bring

Our psychiatrists hear about these most often. Each page covers signs, assessment and support.

How a Telugu, Hindi or English consultation works

The first step is a free pre-consultation call. Our team asks what you would like help with, takes a short history and notes your language preference, then books you with a psychiatrist. The consultation is by video from a phone or laptop. Your psychiatrist listens, asks about symptoms, sleep, work and health, explains what they think is happening and sets out options, which may include medicine, therapy with a clinical psychologist or both. Prescribing follows the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines, 2020, so your psychiatrist will tell you plainly what can be prescribed by video and what needs an examination in person.

Tests, follow-ups and your family doctor

If your psychiatrist advises blood tests or a heart tracing before a medicine, you can have them at a laboratory near you in Hyderabad and share the reports by video. Please tell your family doctor about everything you take, particularly if you have diabetes, thyroid disease, epilepsy or heart problems, because some medicines interact. Follow-ups are usually shorter than the first consultation, and many people see their psychiatrist every few weeks at the start and less often later. If you need an examination in person or admission, your psychiatrist will say so and help you plan it.
