Languages and who you can see
We want to be direct about language here. Many people in Hyderabad would like therapy in Telugu, but none of our clinical psychologists lists Telugu at present. Ms. Janvi Khokhar and Ms. Kamakshi Sabharwal offer therapy in English and Hindi, and both are shown below. Our Telugu-speaking psychiatrists, Dr. Pooja Rani and Dr. Samarth S Shetty, can see you in Telugu for assessment and treatment. If you want talk therapy and Telugu is your first language, we can set up therapy in English or Hindi alongside a psychiatrist in Telugu, or start with the psychiatrist alone.

Living and working in Hyderabad
- Choosing the language for therapy. Some people find it easier to talk about painful feelings in English, because the words carry less family history. Others can only describe shame or fear in their mother tongue. There is no right answer. Try a first session in the language you choose and change if it does not feel right, and tell us so that we can adjust.
- Therapy that fits a busy city. Online sessions remove travel and let you attend from home or a quiet space at work. Evening and weekend slots are often in demand, so ask early about the times you would like. Regular weekly sessions in the first few weeks usually bring the most benefit, so a time you can keep matters more than a perfect one.
- Work, study and family expectations. Many people who come to therapy in Hyderabad are balancing demanding jobs or exams with family expectations about marriage, money and caring for parents. A psychologist can help you sort out which pressures are yours and which are inherited, and to set boundaries that you can keep.
Starting therapy in Hyderabad
People who start therapy in Hyderabad often arrive with a mix of concerns: work pressure, a relationship that feels stuck, or worry that is hard to switch off. You do not need to know what to call it. Describe what a bad week looks like, and your psychologist will help you name the pattern and decide on a method. Online sessions suit people who spend much of the week in the IT corridor or on the road. If privacy at home is limited, tell your psychologist early so that you can agree on a time and place that works.
Therapy tends to work best when the effort continues between sessions. Your psychologist may suggest short exercises, such as noting worries at a fixed time or practising a breathing skill, and will review how they went. If an exercise feels too hard or pointless, say so; changing it is part of the process, not a failure on your side.
Concerns people in Hyderabad bring
Our clinical psychologists hear about these most often. Each page covers signs, assessment and support.
What working with a psychologist online looks like
A first session is usually an unhurried conversation about what brought you, your history and what you hope will change. Your clinical psychologist then proposes a way of working. For anxiety or low mood that may be cognitive behavioural therapy, which looks at how thoughts, feelings and actions feed each other. For OCD it may be exposure and response prevention, and for intense emotions it may be skills from dialectical behaviour therapy. Sessions are usually weekly at first, last about an hour, and are reviewed regularly so that you can see whether the plan is working.

When therapy is not the whole answer
Therapy helps many people on its own. If sleep, appetite or energy have changed sharply, if you have thoughts of harming yourself, or if your psychologist suspects bipolar disorder, ADHD or severe OCD, they will suggest adding a psychiatrist, who can assess you medically and prescribe if needed. Psychologists do not prescribe. Because both work within Mindly, you do not have to start over, and information is shared only with your consent. Common questions
Can I have therapy in Telugu?
Not at the moment with a clinical psychologist, because none lists Telugu. Our Telugu-speaking psychiatrists can see you in Telugu, and therapy is available in English or Hindi.
Is there a clinic I can visit in Hyderabad?
No. Mindly is online-only and has no clinic or walk-in service. All sessions are by video.
How is a therapist different from a psychiatrist?
A psychologist provides talk therapy and does not prescribe. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who diagnoses and prescribes. Many people see both.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on the concern. Some people feel better after a few months of weekly sessions, and others need longer. Your psychologist agrees a plan with you and reviews it.
Do I have to keep my camera on?
Video helps your clinician read your expressions, but if there is a reason you cannot, tell us and we will find a way that works.
