Languages and who you can see

Our three clinical psychologists who see patients for therapy speak English and Hindi (Ms. Janvi Khokhar and Ms. Kamakshi Sabharwal) and English and Malayalam (Ms. Liji Vijayan). We want to be plain about this: none of our clinical psychologists lists Kannada, Tamil or Telugu at the moment. If you want therapy and your first language is one of those, we can offer therapy in English or Hindi, or a consultation in your own language with one of our psychiatrists, who may combine talk-based support with treatment. Living and working in Bengaluru

  • Stress that builds up over years. People in Bengaluru often come to therapy not because of one crisis but because of years of pressure: demanding jobs, constant deadlines, long commutes and expensive city living. Therapy can help you recognise burnout and anxiety early, and build habits that make them easier to manage.
  • Many people, few hours. Evening and weekend slots matter in a city where the workday is long. Online sessions remove commuting time, which for many people in Bengaluru is the main barrier to attending regular therapy.
  • Therapy and the workplace. If you are considering how to speak to a manager or HR about mental health, a therapist can help you plan what to say and what you need. We do not contact employers without your consent.

Therapy that fits a city that never slows down

Many people in Bengaluru ask for therapy during a job change, after burnout, or when a relationship under strain collides with a demanding workload. Sessions of about an hour once a week suit a diary that is already full, and doing them online removes the cross-city drive. If you work from home, think about where the session will happen, since a spare room, a parked car or a quiet corner of a co-working space can each work. Tell your psychologist if you share a flat, because privacy changes how openly you can talk and the plan can adapt.

Ask your psychologist what a realistic pace looks like. Some people notice a change within a few weeks, while others need several months, and long-standing patterns take longer. Agree early on how you will tell each other if the sessions are not helping, and keep the same weekly time where you can, since regular slots make it easier to build on each session.

Concerns people in Bengaluru bring

Our clinical psychologists hear about these most often. Each page covers signs, assessment and support.

What therapy with a clinical psychologist involves

A clinical psychologist assesses what you are experiencing, explains it, and offers talk therapy. A first session usually covers your history and what you would like to change. Sessions then follow a plan, often using CBT, which looks at the links between thoughts, feelings and behaviour, or other approaches such as DBT skills, schema therapy or acceptance-based work, depending on your needs and your clinician's training. Sessions are typically about 45 to 50 minutes, weekly at first, and you review progress together. Psychologists do not prescribe medicine.

When to add a psychiatrist

Therapy is enough for many people. A psychiatrist is worth adding when symptoms are severe, when sleep or appetite have changed a lot, when you have thoughts of harming yourself, when you suspect a condition such as bipolar disorder, ADHD or OCD that may need a medical assessment, or when therapy alone has not helped. Because both work at Mindly, your psychologist can refer you inside the team and you do not have to start again. Read the guide on how psychiatrists, psychologists and counsellors differ.

Common questions

Can I have therapy in Kannada?

Not at the moment with a clinical psychologist, because none of our psychologists lists Kannada. Our Kannada-speaking psychiatrists can see you in Kannada, and we can offer therapy in English or Hindi. Tell us what you prefer.

Is online therapy as effective as face-to-face?

For many common problems such as anxiety and depression, research suggests video therapy works about as well. If your situation needs in-person care, your clinician will tell you.

Do psychologists prescribe medicine?

No. Only psychiatrists, who are medical doctors, prescribe. Your psychologist can refer you to a Mindly psychiatrist if medicine may help.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the concern. Some people benefit from a few months of weekly sessions, others need longer. Your psychologist will agree a plan with you and review it.

Is there a clinic I can visit in Bengaluru?

No. Mindly is online-only and has no clinic or walk-in service. All sessions are by video.
